Hunan Satellite TV, Baidu to Release 2008 Entertainment Rankings

On February 19, online search firm Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) and Hunan Satellite TV will present the 2008 Feidian ("Boiling Point) Ranking at the Water Cube in Beijing. The Feidian ranking will be the most authoritative ranking of data about happenings in the Chinese-language entertainment world in 2008. Baidu and Hunan Satellite have set up a website at http://feidian.baidu.com providing a countdown to the awards.

Reportedly, each Baidu search for a term will count as a vote cast in favor of that term, meaning that the rankings – which will name a King and Queen of the entertainment industry for 2008 – are based on a year-long survey of China's 293 mln internet users' search queries – an amount of data reportedly numbering in the tens of billions of queries.
