Ku6 Loses Copyright Infringement Lawsuit

Sohu IT, 2/03/09

The Beijing Haidian District People's Court has found online video sharing platform Ku6 guilty of copyright infringement for the unauthorized broadcast of the film "Red Cliff", a film owned by China Film Group Corporation (CFGC).

The court ruled that Ku6 had not properly reviewed its site content, had infringed upon the defendant's online broadcasting rights, and ordered the website to cease broadcasts of the film. Ku6 was also ordered to compensate CFGC RMB 50,000 in economic losses as well as RMB 5,000 in court expenses.

Ku6 stated it plans to appeal the ruling.

Editor's Note: CFGC, which filed the suit last August, had originally sought RMB 550,000 in compensation and legal expenses.
