Chinese online B2C e-commerce firms including Joyo-Amazon and 360buy have revealed sales volume statistics over the Chinese New Year period. Although total sales for the sites increased by varying amounts, the number of orders for highly-priced goods saw a marked decrease.
Joyo-Amazon stated that compared to the previous year's figures, sales during the period increased over 200%. 360buy also noted an increase, saying that compared to its usual compound monthly growth of 10%, sales growth reached 30% due to the Chinese New Year.
Compared to previous years, common items usually purchased in stores such as toothpaste, shampoo and skincare products saw a large increase in sales, whereas orders for more expensive items such single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras, CPUs and high-end laptops saw a reduction in sales volume by approximately 30%.
