Guangzhou Daily, 2/18/09

Xu Long, general manager of Guangdong Mobile, said the company will spend RMB 6 bln to construct 6,300 new TD-SCDMA base stations.

Xu mentioned that TD-SCDMA commercial use would also provide stimulus for five markets, including system equipment and component parts which would each see RMB 30 bln in investment, terminal equipment which would see sales of RMB 30 bln, and operations and information services which would each see operating revenues worth RMB 30 bln.

Xu went on to say that Guangdong's clear objective is to establish a "Digital Pearl River Delta", with Internet and home broadband penetration in the region reaching 90% and 65% respectively by 2012, and wireless broadband covering approximately 60% of the population. Guangdong Mobile will also invest RMB 1 bln towards the creation of "wireless cities" in the region.
