LeTV Receives 3G Service Licence

China Computer World, 2/23/09

Chinese online video site LeTV was one of several video-sharing sites that recently received authorization from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) to begin offering mobile video content services.

LeTV vice president Liu Hong says the company will develop its services in the areas of 3G technology and 3G content provision, including broadcasting films to which it owns the rights over the mobile platform. Other video-sharing sites including Youku, Tudou, and Joy.cn have yet to receive any word about whether or not they will be approved for 3G video services.

A spokesperson for Joy.cn says 3G services will be a major factor in the future development of online video sharing, and that the company will actively prepare to offer the services.
