Google China Expects Rapid Development in 2009

China Business News, 2/24/09

Kai-Fu Lee, Google's global vice president and president for the Greater China region, says that Google China grew by 109% in 2008, and expects to see "explosive" growth in all of its services in China in 2009. Google China's Maps and Mobile offerings grew fourfold in 2008. Lee confirmed that Google will continue to focus on search in 2009, and will work to further improve user experience with its third-generation integrated search, to be introduced this year. He noted that currently two-thirds of users search both Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) and Google for the same information, and said that Google hoped this year to reach the remaining third of users who search only Baidu.
