CCID: ZTE Tops Chinese 3G Equipment Market

According to a report from Chinese market research firm CCID and reports from operators, during China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) first and second rounds of bidding for its TD-SCDMA network, China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) WCDMA network bidding, and China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) CDMA network bidding, the three operators procured a total of 660,000 carrier sectors.

ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) accounted for 29.3% of the Chinese 3G equipment market by carrier sectors as of February 2009. Huawei came in second with 21.9%; Datang (600198.SH), 12.6%, Ericsson 10.9%, Nokia-Siemens Networks 6.8%, Alcatel-Lucent 6.8%, Motorola 2.7%, Nortel 2.3%, Samsung 0.4%, and other manufacturers 6.2%.
