China Telecom, Microsoft Launch IM Service

China Business News, 5/27/09

China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) announced a cooperation yesterday with Microsoft MSN to jointly develop the instant messenger product E-Surfing Live and to commence related commercial trials. In addition to instant messaging functionality, E-Surfing Live will integrate various China Telecom services and applications including iMusic, HD film and television, and finance and auto information. China Telecom and MSN users will have the option to combine contact lists from their two accounts.

E-Surfing Live includes PC and mobile versions, and is only available to China Telecom mobile and broadband subscribers. Subscribers can send SMS messages to other China Telecom mobile subscribers directly through E-Surfing Live. China Telecom has also released a PC-to-phone calling function oriented toward high-end users allowing direct calling through E-Surfing Live, with fees similar to local calling rates.
