Operators to Launch SMS Spam Processing Platform

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) convened a meeting on the use of and training for spam management policy and inter-network cooperative processing platforms today. All three telecom operators will launch the "inter-network SMS spam joint processing platform" in mid-June.

Zhu Zhengwu, deputy GM of China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) individual client services division, said the operator is currently working on development and testing for SMS spam alleviation software, which it has already deployed in 31 provinces. China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) deputy GM for products, He Huajie, said Unicom will launch its "SMS firewall" product nationwide in the second half of this year. Lu Wenchang, deputy GM of China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) marketing department, said China Mobile will release an anti-spam mobile client nationwide.
