MIIT: "Green Dam" Deadline Postponed

Beijing Business Today, 7/01/09

A spokesman for China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said yesterday evening that PC manufacturers can postpone pre-installing Green Dam filtering software.

The spokesman emphasized that the software would continue to be freely available for download after July 1, and to be used on publicly available computers such as in Internet cafes and primary and secondary schools. As to whether to pre-install the software on other PCs, MIIT plans to solicit feedback in order to better achieve its goals.
