Sony: No Plan to Abandon Chinese Blu-Ray Market

Southern Metropolitan News, 7/01/09

A manager at Sony China's Guangzhou branch denied recent rumors that the company plans to quit the Chinese domestic Blu-Ray player market, and said Sony may introduce new products on the Mainland.

CCID Consulting statistics show that by the end of 2008 Sony held a 70-80% market share for Blu-Ray products in China, but actual sales volume was only 2,000-3,000 units.

According to Sony's figures, Sony Pictures has already released 64 different kinds of Blu-Ray disc products, and plans to release 100 more this year.
