Changyou Postpones MMO Launch

CCID, 7/28/09

Wang Tao, CEO of Sohu's (Nasdaq: SOHU) online gaming subsidiary Changyou (Nasdaq: CYOU), revealed during last night's Q2 earnings call that the launch of its self-developed 2.5D MMORPG "Duke of Mount Deer" will be postponed until Q3 of next year, bringing the game's total development time to 35 months. The game was originally set to launch and become profitable in Q4 of this year.

Wang said that the delay was due to heightened expectations from gamers, brought about by recent increase in choice of games on the market. Wang said the game's current content is relatively lacking compared with the original book off which it is based, and still requires further fleshing out.

In the game's last round of closed testing, players of "Duke of Mount Deer" dropped out at a rate of 20% per month.
