Ma Wu, deputy manager of China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) terminal management center, revealed that combined domestic 3G handset sales volume for all three standards grew by 113% in H1 2009, led by EV-DO handset sales. Speaking at the E-Surfing handset procurement trade fair, Ma predicted total 3G handset sales volume for 2009 would reach 5 mln units, 90% of which would be from sales in the second half of this year.
Ma added that the domestic handset market for H1 2009 reached 80.41 mln units, up 7.3% YoY. In that period, CDMA handset sales volume grew 345%. Currently, 350 CDMA products are available, while new CDMA products accounted for 19% of all new products in H1 2009.
