ZTE Wins China Unicom Contract for 40,000 3G Handsets

China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) "Wo" 3G terminal procurement fair has officially opened in Harbin. Unicom is procuring handsets at the fair for the North China market in preparation for its full-scale launch of 3G numbers in the region. The fair will travel to China's Eastern, Southern and Southwestern regions in the near future.

Chinese communications equipment manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) showcased a complete line of WCDMA terminals at the fair and received orders for 40,000 X60 high-end smartphones.

The X60 is designed as an entertainment-oriented handset, equipped with browser zoom functions, the MyPhone personal information network, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional mobile OS and Microsoft Office.
