Kunshan to Build USD 3.3 Bln TFT-LCD Base

Kunshan City in Jiangsu Province has begun construction of a 500,000 square meter, USD 3.3 bln advanced generation TFT-LCD production base in the city's optoelectronics industrial park, to be completed by Q3 2011.

Once completed, the project will host 7.5G to 8.5G TFT-LCD R&D, production and sales, producing LCD panels, display modules and finished goods ranging in dimensions from 32" to 52". The base will have a processing capacity of 90,000 sheets of glass substrate per month, with an annual production volume of 12.77 mln LCD television sets and annual revenues reaching USD 2.3 bln.

Zhang Guohua, Kunshan municipal party secretary, said that over a 3-5 year period, the city's industrial park hopes to see USD 10 bln in total investment, with RMB 20 bln in annual production volume as a result of the TFT-LCD production line as well as the presence of InfoVision Optoelectronics (Kunshan) Co., Ltd. (IVO) and Konka (200016.SZ, 000016.SZ), making the park the top optoelectronics manufacturing base in China.
