Rumor: WoW to Start Commercial Operation

Beijing Morning Post, 9/17/09

Reports at 10 PM last night suggested a breakthrough in the long-delayed governmental review of World of Warcraft, the popular MMORPG operated by Chinese internet company Netease (Nasdaq: NTES), quelling fears that service would be shut down and raising the possibility that commercial beta operations of the game could begin as early as tomorrow. The reports tied the breakthrough to a new announcement, published yesterday by China's State Commission Office for Public Sector Reform.

Editor's Note: Netease has denied the rumor and did not reveal a specific date for commercial launch. For more information on the new notice, please see "China Clarifies Game Approval Process" MD 9/17/09 issue.
