Taobao Search Page in Internal Testing

An industry source has revealed that Chinese online B2C and C2C e-commerce site Taobao is currently conducting internal tests on a new search page, http://search.taobao.com. The independent search page is currently open only to visits from users in Hangzhou and some other areas; search results are based on Taobao data. Taobao says its website now uses entirely self-developed search technology.
A source inside Taobao noted that the company had not ruled out the possibility of developing an internet-wide product search engine in the future. The company's PR department said that Taobao will release its search strategy "at the appropriate time."
