MIIT: 192 TD-SCDMA Network Access Permits Released

According to Zhu Jun, assistant director of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) Department of Communications Development, as of October 9 the MIIT had issued 192 TD-SCDMA terminal network access permits, including permits for 83 mobile phones, 89 data cards, and 20 wireless wireline terminals. The first three quarters of 2009 saw more than 5 mln TD-SCDMA core chipsets shipped.

China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) TD-SCDMA second stage network construction is complete, and third stage construction is expected to be complete in 200 cities by the end of the year. China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) has launched CDMA2000 EV-DO networks in 342 cities. The first three quarters of 2009 have also seen 28.52 mln new WAP users, equivalent to 77% of 2008's full-year increase. During the same period, China has added 45.39 mln new Internet users, 2.1 times the full-year increase for 2008.
