Rumor: Qualcomm to Acquire Chinese TD-SCDMA Chipmaker

Industry sources report that Qualcomm is in talks to purchase Suzhou-based TD-SCDMA chipset developer ASTWireless, with only a final agreement waiting to be signed. A spokesperson for Qualcomm China said they had heard nothing of the matter. ASTWireless GM Fang Ming also denied the rumor. A source close to mobile chip maker Broadcom said, however, that ASTWireless had contacted Broadcom about an acquisition in the past, but that talks petered out, after which ASTWireless approached Qualcomm.
