Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) is reportedly recruiting talent for a specialized online buzz marketing team, according to an industry source.
Sina and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) launched a trial buzz campaign for the iPhone in December. Promotional posts online drew 200,000 visits and generated over 3,000 comments. The source said the current promotion began with a series of exciting posts in major forums each day, which were forwarded soon after via Sina's blog and microblog platforms to generate discussion, after which user comments were turned into main topics of conversation on major Internet portals and forums. The source added that the promotion spanned Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) Blogs, online community site Tianya, Oak Pacific Interactive's entertainment portal Mop, online community aggregator Daqi and mobile phone portal Cnmo.com.
