Beijing Mobile Tackles Spam SMS Problem

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) has revealed that from December 12, 2009 to January 3, 2010, Beijing Mobile dealt with over approximately 170,000 mobile numbers that were being used to send spam SMS, and handled more than 3,000 spam cases reported by subscribers. According to incomplete statistics, the average number of spam messages received by China Mobile's Beijing GoTone clients per day has fallen approximately 75%. A spokesperson at Beijing Mobile stated that efforts to curb spam have already met with initial success, and that the operator plans to step up efforts and strengthen technical methods used.
