Taobao to Release App Store on Jan 15

According to industry sources, C2C and B2C e-commerce site Taobao's app store, "Taobao Xiang" ("Taobao Chest"), will officially launch on January 15. At that time, Taobao will announce the store's business structure, operational model, and the cooperation and support policy for developers. 30 outstanding apps from Taobao's 'Win@Taobao' app design and development contest will be the first batch of apps made available on the store.

The Taobao App Store will provide a sales platform for independent software vendors (ISV). The Taobao App Store will appear in the site's "My Taobao" section, as well in its AliTalk instant messaging software. Prices for applications are set by the ISVs, with Taobao verifying the apps. Both parties will take a portion of the revenue.
