Rumor: China to Release Internet TV Content Licenses

Sina Tech, 1/21/10

An industry source has revealed that Chinese governmental authorities will soon issue two Internet TV programming permits to two organizations - China Network TV (CNTV), CCTV's online TV station, and Shanghai SMG's BesTV IPTV network. The source said that the only entities currently able to obtain the permits are "national teams," and that the number of licenses to be issued was still undecided.

Other industry sources said that there would be four permits, with Hangzhou-based Wasu Online and Guangdong TV in the running for permits, in addition to CNTV and BesTV.
