Youku and Tudou to Share Broadcast Rights

Netease Tech, 2/03/10

At an announcement ceremony today, CEOs Victor Koo and Gary Wang of Chinese video-sharing sites Youku and Tudou, respectively, announced that they will join forces to launch a new "joint broadcasting model for online video" under which they will share their exclusive online broadcast rights to film and television properties. According to one industry source, the move is aimed to lower the cost of buying rights to copyrighted video, and that the two companies will team up in buying rights in the future.

Editor's Note: Reports earlier today also emerged that Youku and Tudou were preparing for a joint announcement to delete all infringing video content on their sites within 24 hours.
