Google China Recruits New Staff, Advertisers Return

Netease Tech, 2/24/10

Google China's official website has posted job listings to recruit technical, management and sales personnel for over 30 positions. Google has also begun providing mobile users with travel information. One Google employee, speaking anonymously, said that work at Google China headquarters had returned to normal.

Vincent Kobler, managing director at EmporioAsia Leo Burnett in Shanghai, said Google's early threat to leave the China market drove advertisers to rival company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU). With Google's departure appearing less likely, advertisers are beginning to reduce ad spend with Baidu.

Steven Chang, CEO for China at ZenithOptimedia, said clients are considering running future ad campaigns with Google, and are once again purchasing advertising through Google.

Editor's Note: A Google spokesperson responded to media reports of new job listings by saying the postings were all made prior to January 12, when Google announced it was considering leaving the China market.
