Rumor: Chinese Registrars to Shut Domains for BBS, SNS, Blogs

Sina Tech, 3/03/10

Industry rumors say that Chinese internet infrastructure providers HiChina and Xinnet will begin suspending domain name resolution for BBS, SNS, and blog sites in April. Only sites that have registered specifically to provide these services with the appropriate authorities will remain available; in order to register for these services, enterprises must have a registered capital of RMB 5 mln or more.

An employee at HiChina said he had not received any notification of such a policy, but did say that unregistered websites would be inaccessible.
