Rumor: Innovative Linkage to Sell Business to Alibaba Subsidiary HiChina

Donews, 3/26/10

An online source has claimed that Chinese internet infrastructure provider Beijing Innovative Linkage Technology is planning to sell its domain registration, virtual server, and corporate mailbox services to HiChina, an internet service subsidiary of Hangzhou-based e-commerce company Alibaba.com (1688.HK). The source says that talks between the two companies have progressed to substantive discussions. Previously, Innovative Linkage had planned to sell off its domain registration and hosting services to rival registrar and mail provider 35.com (300051.SZ), but the two companies were unable to reach a final agreement.

A spokesperson for HiChina confirmed that the company plans to make acquisitions, but denied that it would consider acquiring Innovative Linkage. A spokesperson for Innovative Linkage said the company had no plans to sell off its services.
