Rumor: Huawei Wins 63% of China Mobile IMS Contracts

An industry source has reported that results are beginning to come in for China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) IMS (IP Multimedia System) equipment bidding, which were conducted over the past half year. Chinese equipment vendors Huawei and ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) were selected for the initial round of IMS equipment testing, as were Nokia-Siemens Networks (NSN), Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB), and Ericsson. Huawei has been selected to take charge of IMS network construction in 15 provinces, including Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu - accounting for 63% of the total awarded share. ZTE followed with 16%, covering network construction in five provinces including Hunan and Chongqing. NSN, ASB, and Ericsson will split network construction contracts for the remaining 7 provinces.
