Alibaba Chairman: Taobao to Charge Users

Sina Tech, 5/10/10

Jack Ma, chairman of Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Group, has said that the company's B2C and C2C subsidiary Taobao will definitely charge user fees in the future. Ma said Taobao originally planned to offer free services for three years, and that at the end of those three years, the global financial crisis pushed Taobao to extend free services for an additional two years. Ma stressed that fees are not intended to simply take in more money, but to allow Taobao to continue to provide services for the long-term.
