China Unicom Unveils LePhone Packages

On May 17, Chinese computer and handset maker Lenovo (0992.HK) and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) will jointly begin sales of Lenovo's new LePhone smartphone, with a list price of RMB 2,899. China Unicom and Lenovo will also form strategic partnerships on 3G services, 3G applications, channel coordination, and joint marketing. The two companies will sell the LePhone through both Unicom's and Lenovo's sales channels. Lenovo will begin trial sales through an initial group of 3,600 PC and mobile phone stores; Unicom will initially offer the phone through 1,600 of its 3G brand stores, flagship service centers, and regular service centers, after which it will expand sales.
