RIM Plans TD-LTE Blackberry

Sohu IT, 5/31/10

Gregory Shea, Research In Motion's (RIM) president for the China region, said recently that the company will focus on providing Blackberry services to China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) and China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK), and plans, in addition to a forthcoming TD-SCDMA edition of the Blackberry, to release a TD-LTE Blackberry. Shea said that the timetable for the release of the handset would depend on how RIM's partnership arrangements with China Mobile progress.

A spokesperson for RIM revealed that the company only has partnership agreements with China Mobile and China Telecom at present. The company has no specific arrangements with China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH), and a Unicom Blackberry is not likely to be released this year.
