CCTV: SD Broadcasting to End by 2013

Ding Wenhua, chief engineer at CCTV, revealed today that CCTV plans to cease standard definition (SD) broadcasting by 2013. In addition to its current standard definition/high definition (SD-HD) simulcasting of CCTV-1, CCTV also plans to expand simulcasting to another 8 to 10 channels, including the more popular channels such as CCTV-2, CCTV-3, CCTV-5, CCTV-8, CCTV-10, CCTV News and the CCTV Children's Channel, providing access to HD broadcasts to 60%-70% of CCTV's total audience.
