Sohu Reveals Wireless Restructuring Details

In a letter today, Chinese online media, communication, search, online gaming and wireless value-added services provider Sohu (Nasdaq: SOHU) detailed plans to restructure its wireless division. VP Fang Gang will simultaneously serve as GM of the wireless business and directly report to chairman and COO Belinda Wang. The wireless division's mobile Chinese Pinyin input method development team will be integrated with Sohu's Sogou search engine business and report to CTO Wang Xiaochuan.
Both the "Sohu Express" mobile newspaper service development team and the Mobile Product Center led by Zou Dan will be merged into the wireless division. Wang Quanfeng, deputy GM of the wireless division, will head Sohu's WVAS business. Both Zou and Wang will report to Fang.
The restructuring will split the wireless division into a mobile Sohu.com business and a wireless value-added service provider (SP) business. The former will be divided according to its respective internet business departments, while the latter will oversee SP services including color ringback tones (CRBT), MMS, SMS, multimedia ringback tones, games and social networking services, while remaining part of the wireless division.
