Li Guoqing, CEO of Chinese B2C e-commerce site Dangdang (NYSE: DANG), announced at the 2011 China E-Reader Industry Summit (CEIS) in Beijing on January 9 that Dangdang has established and invested in a digital publishing business, with major operations scheduled to begin in H2 2011.
Li said that Dangdang began selling digital literature in April 2010 and has been in discussions with publishers regarding pricing, DRM, and format conversion for approximately one year.
Li added that Dangdang most recently released a chapter preview feature allowing users to freely preview chapters of a book. He said that Dangdang's mobile site now accounts for 10% of total internet traffic, primarily for mobile literature.
