GAPP Denies WoW Expansion Pack Submitted for Approval

DoNews, 1/14/11

A representative of the Beijing office of China's General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) denied rumors today that Cataclysm, the new expansion pack for World of Warcraft, had been approved, saying that Beijing GAPP had not yet received materials related to the expansion pack.

The spokesperson confirmed that operator Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) was preparing materials for review, but said that the company had not yet submitted them. When asked how long the review process would take once Netease submitted the materials, the spokesperson demurred, saying that the length of time would be determined by both Netease's application materials and the content of the new expansion pack.

Under policy, once Beijing GAPP completes its review of the application, it will be required to submit the application to the national-level GAPP office for review.
