Rumor: China Mobile Abandons KPI Review for Data Business

CCID, 1/14/11

A source inside China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) revealed today that the operator plans to abandon key performance indicator (KPI) reviews for data services at its provincial subsidiaries, moving instead toward reviews based on operations volume, profits, and other factors. KPI reviews for services had previously determined whether a given service lived or died under China Mobile's executive policy. A source at the company had previously said that after China Mobile stopped KPI review for its mobile securities service, performance dropped sharply.
