Chinese Group Buy Sites Boycott Groupon Alumni

DoNews, 1/24/11

According to insider sources, Chinese group buying sites Lashou, Manzuo, Ftuan and nearly twenty others will soon alter their corporate recruiting requirements to state that they will not recruit any previous Groupon employee, in an effort to stymie Groupon's entry into China.

Lashou's director of marketing, Zheng Bin, verified these reports, and he went on to further explain these new rules: Lashou will be resolute in firing any current Lashou employees found to be working part time for Groupon; and any potential applicants, who have previously worked either part time or full time for Groupon, will be rejected. Zheng Bin added, "We are taking these steps in response to Groupon aggressively poaching our staff."

All twenty Chinese group buying sites, including Manzuo, have entered this "Human Resources Boycott" alliance. A director of marketing for the alliance says that most of the companies involved are ranked in the top twenty group buying websites in China.
