An internal source at Chinese used car site iAutos.cn, operated by Beijing Aiche Technology, has disclosed that the site has formed a strategic partnership with C2C and B2C e-commerce site Taobao. The two parties will cooperate on the development of a used car database and sales platform. Taobao's Hangzhou headquarters has promised to publicly announce details of the agreement in March.
Taobao currently operates a small-scale used car sales and auction service, while iAutos has already posted over 3 mln used car ads.
A source within iAutos indicated that many of the details of the agreement have already been hammered out. In the near future, Taobao users will be able to access information on iAutos vehicles through the Taobao website, though for now there is no concrete plan to integrate the iAuto sales transaction system.
iAutos was established in 2004 as a dedicated national used automobile sales site. In addition to used car ads, the site also provides online pricing evaluation and comparisons for used cars.
