Netease Portal Business to Shift Focus to Mobile

China Business News, 3/09/10

Zhang Rui, assistant editor-in-chief at Netease (Nasdaq: NTES), recently revealed at the 2011 Chinese Mobile Phone Software Industry Conference in Guangzhou that Netease's portal business will shift its primary focus to mobile internet services such as mobile news and mobile video. Netease will also expand its mobile internet business to include microblogging and e-mail.

Zhang added that Netease's portal website has no competitive advantage when it comes to mobile daily life tools such as address books, ringtones, wallpaper, and photos and videos, or mobile applications focused on education, childcare, local SNS, or daily life services, and will not enter those market segments.
