SARFT Circulates Draft Plan for National Cable TV Operator

Netease Tech, 3/23/11

At the China Content Broadcasting Network Exhibition (CCBN 2011) currently underway in Beijing, State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) deputy bureau chief, Tian Jin, said that SARFT had drafted initial plans for building its national-level cable television network company, China Broadcasting Television Network. SARFT is currently seeking feedback from related government departments so it can submit the plans for approval as quickly as possible. The national-level cable television network company will be responsible for the upgrading and conversion of China's cable TV network.

Tian said that more than twenty provinces had completed or practically completed provincial cable TV network integration work. Tian added that the overall development in the 12 next-generation broadcasting (NGB) trial cities was unsatisfactory. Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian (Liaoning), Wuhan (Hubei), and Nanjing (Jiangsu) are several of the 12 trial cities.
