Baidu Enables Microblogging from Search Box

BiaNews, 4/01/11

Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has launched its "Box Microblogging" application, where internet users can directly post updates on microblogs using Baidu's search box.

Baidu is collaborating with the microblogging platforms of Tencent (0700.HK), Sohu (Nasdaq: SOHU), and Netease (Nasdaq: NTES). Baidu is currently not working with Sina's (Nasdaq: SINA) microblog platform.

The user will be prompted whether they wish to post their search query to their microblog account if the search string includes punctuation such as an exclamation point or the Chinese exclamatory particle "ya," or includes adverbs such as "extremely," or "very."

Baidu will also integrate the service with its social networking and microblogging platform Baidu Talk in advance of a rumored overhaul scheduled for April.
