Rumor: China Unicom Changes iPhone 4 Calling Plans

Netease, 4/08/11

According to an industry source, China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) will change its iPhone 4 contract plan policy. Instead of paying an advanced deposit on monthly calling fees, customers instead purchase the smartphone and receive subsidies towards their monthly balance.

Under the new policy, customers can purchase a 16 GB iPhone 4 for RMB 4,999 and select one of ten calling packages priced between RMB 66 to RMB 886 per month, receiving a monthly calling fee rebate between RMB 26-354.

China Unicom did not respond to Netease Tech's requests for confirmation of the rumor.
