Development of China's IC Sector Elevated to National Priority Status

Yang Xueshan, deputy minister of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), recently disclosed that as part of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) China has made IC sector development a national strategic priority. China aims to see IC industry revenue reach RMB 330 bln and to develop chips using domestically-owned IP by 2015.

According to MIIT statistics, China's IC industry revenue reached RMB 144.02 bln in 2010, accounting for 8.6% of the global market, while chips developed and produced in China satisfied only 20% of domestic demand. China's total IC import/export value for 2010 reached USD 156.99 bln.
