Rumor: China Mobile to Complete Phase-2 TD-LTE Tests by May 2012

CCW, 4/21/11

An industry source revealed recently that large-scale TD-LTE tests would complete the first phase of testing by the end of this June, and will conclude the second phase of testing by the end of May 2012. Five first-round test cities (in addition to Xiamen) will set up 220 base stations apiece, for a total of 1,210 TD-LTE base stations in all six cities. This will increase to a total of 3,400 TD-LTE base stations in the second phase of testing, with 530 base stations in Nanjing and Hangzhou, and 240 base stations (up from 110 in the first phase of testing) in Xiamen. Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen will each set up 710 base stations; the number of base stations to be set up in Beijing has not yet been determined.
