Nanjing Cable TV to Debut Network Convergence Services in H2 2011

LMTW, 5/05/11

According to the Nanjing branch of Jiangsu Broadcasting Television Network, the city's 600,000 bi-directional cable DTV subscribers will be able to experience "All-Media TV" services combining broadcast, telecom, and internet functionality in H2 2011.

"All-Media TV" is Nanjing Cable's network convergence technology that combines capabilities from all three networks in a single TV set, allowing Nanjing residents to watch TV and films, chat online, make video calls, browse the Web, shop online, make online payments, and play games. For its initial release, "All-Media TV" will organize more than 100 services into nine major categories - TV Channels, HD, VOD, Lifestyles, Mall, Entertainment, Reading, Internet, and Service Center.

Subscribers who have already received bi-directional cable DTV set-top boxes will receive a free online upgrade once the new service launches. Nanjing Cable aims to upgrade 10,000 subscribers each day and upgrade all subscribers before the end of the year.

Basic subscriber fees will not be raised for the new service, which will be mostly free with the exception of certain new value-added services.
