Rumor: Lenovo Boosts Touch Screen Orders from Taiwanese Firms

Sina Tech, 7/05/11

Chinese laptop, PC, and handset manufacturer Lenovo (0992.HK) has reportedly increased orders of touch screen display panels for use in tablet devices from two Taiwanese manufacturers, Asia Vital Components (AVC) and Mildex Optical. Lenovo will release its IdeaPad and ThinkPad tablet lines in Q3 2011, and has turned to these two companies because Taiwan's top tier touch panel makers are already fully booked.

In order to meet increased demand from Lenovo, AVC will increase monthly production capacity from 200,000 units in June to 500,000 by the third or fourth quarter this year, while Mildex will begin shipping panels to Lenovo this month starting at 70,000 to 90,000 units per month, eventually increasing to 200,000 to 250,000 by October.
