PR Newswire Asia, 8/03/11

Chinese network solutions provider UTStarcom (Nasdaq: UTSI) today announced that it has provided the Gigabit and Ethernet Passive Optical Network ("GEPON") products to support Indian telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL)'s FTTH service, which was successfully launched on July 23, 2011.

BSNL has already installed FTTH systems in nearly 134 cities across India to provide high speed data, video, voice, and cable TV services to its FTTH customers. BSNL hopes to have around 6 mln customers by the year 2015.

The FTTH service works with the help of a ring-based optical fiber network that ensures high speed connectivity. FTTH broadband service can provide a downlink of 2.56 Gbps and uplink speed of 1.25Gbps.
