China Mobile: No Timetable for TD-SCDMA iPhone

The Beijing News, 8/19/11

Wang Jianzhou, chairman of China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), recently addressed rumors of a TD-SCDMA iPhone, saying that while no agreement or timetable has been set, Apple has said it is willing to develop a TD-LTE iPhone in the future.

As of the end of July, 7.44 mln China Mobile subscribers used iPhones, a figure increasing on average by more than 1 mln subscribers a month. Previous media reports had claimed that China Mobile and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) had both filed complaints with the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) regarding competition over iPhone subscribers. Wang denied that there was any substance to the reports, in line with China Unicom's earlier denial.
