Baidu Unveils Mobile OS

Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) today unveiled its "Baidu Yi" mobile OS at the Baidu World 2011 Conference in Beijing. The mobile platform (yi.baidu.com) incorporates a variety of Baidu products including Baidu Search, Baidu Maps, daily life search product Baidu Shenbian, mobile client Baidu Palm, Baidu Pinyin input method editor, and cloud-based backup services.

According to one industry insider, the new platform is based on the Android mobile OS.

Baidu has yet to comment on when it will release the new mobile OS, or whether it plans to launch its own self-branded handsets.
