China Telecom Receives IPTV STB Tender Bids

China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) has received bids from 18 manufacturers for its 2011 IPTV set-top box (STB) procurement tender. Participants include Skyworth Digital Holdings (0751.HK), Fiberhome Telecommunication Technologies (600498.SH), Huawei, ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Coship Electronics (002052.SZ), Konka (200016.SZ, 000016.SZ), Changhong (600839.SH), and UTStarcom (Nasdaq: UTSI).

Based on initial bid offers, the average price per unit for SD IPTV STBs has dropped to RMB 208.4, with the lowest per unit price reaching RMB 186, compared to the average price per SD unit of RMB 497 in 2008, and RMB 388 in 2009.

In this year's tender, the average price per unit for HD IPTV STBs is RMB 356, with the lowest at RMB 286.
